Free video poker at Springbok: practise the holds on your phone

Free video poker at Springbok means its 15 single-hand machines in practice mode: open the lobby on your phone while logged out, tap a machine and choose Try It! to deal on a R1,000.00 fun balance. On a computer the lobby showed a Flash notice instead on 9 October 2026, so practise on the phone. Fun winnings never pay out.

18+. Fun chips never pay out. Bonus wagering ignores video poker, so real play here means a plain deposit with no coupon, and a budget fixed first.

Why free video poker needs your phone

Springbok's video poker comes in two builds. The computer build relies on Adobe Flash, which browsers no longer run, so on 9 October 2026 the desktop lobby showed a notice for Jacks or Better and Deuces Wild: the game “continues to be available on: Mobile”. The phone build is HTML5 and runs in an ordinary browser.

How to open a free video poker machine

  1. Open the lobby on your phone, logged out

Stay signed out: practice mode is the guest route, and Springbok does not say whether Try It! shows for a signed-in player. How practice mode works covers the route for every game.

  2. Tap a machine on the Video Poker tab, then Try It!

Try It! deals on fun money with no form to fill in; Play is the real-money button and needs an account.

  3. Set the coin value and coins

Choose the coin value and the number of coins you would use with rand, and keep both for the whole session. The pay table card further down lists the full range.

  4. Read the Paytable panel, then deal

Find the smallest paying hand before your first deal: it decides which cards are worth keeping. The menu also links to a help page with the full rules.

Springbok's machines, sorted into five families

The family matters more than the name, because it sets which cards are wild and which hand is the smallest one that pays.

From each machine's pay table and help page, read in practice mode on 9 October 2026. All are single-hand.

The bonus versions keep the Jacks or Better ladder but pay extra for particular four-of-a-kind hands, and some, Double Bonus Poker among them, pay no more for two pair than for a pair of Jacks. On the deuces machines a lone pair pays nothing. Pick Em Poker is the odd one out: you hold two cards and choose between two sets of three, seeing only the top card of each. After a win you can try Double or Nothing, picking a card higher than the dealer's; fun mode shows how fast it can undo a win.

The Jacks or Better pay table to practise on first

Jacks or Better is the base the bonus machines build on, so learn it first. This card shows its pay table as the game listed it, for one coin and for five.

Coin value R0.05 to R5.00 (lobby denominations 5, 25, 50, 100 and 500 cents); 1 to 5 coins, so R0.05 to R25.00 per hand. Read from the game's pay table in practice mode on 9 October 2026. Rules: in-game help page.

The royal flush pays far more than five times its one-coin figure when five coins are in, which is why five-coin play is the usual advice. It also makes every hand cost five times as much, and fun mode is the cheapest place to feel what that does to a balance. For what each line of a pay table means, this line-by-line pay table guide goes deeper.

Using fun hands to learn which cards to hold

The cards you keep change how quickly a balance wears down. Good holds lose less in the long run; they never turn a machine in your favour. Fun mode lets you face the same choice hundreds of times for nothing.

  • Name the cut-off. On Jacks or Better a pair of 10s pays nothing and a pair of Jacks does.
  • Never throw away a wild card. On the deuces machines every 2 earns its place.
  • Count hands, not the balance. Set a number of hands and stop there.

Video poker is also missing from the T&Cs list of games that count towards bonus wagering, and a bet on an excluded game before wagering is finished can void a bonus and its winnings. Real video poker belongs with a plain deposit and no coupon; the R250 chip is a slots offer.

From fun chips to rand

Ready for real money?

Only if you choose to. Real video poker runs from the same tile, through Play instead of Try It!, with a registered account. Fix your budget first, leave the Redeem Coupon box empty, and keep the coin value you practised with.

Play without a bonus

  • Open an account, pay in rand and skip the Redeem Coupon box.
  • No bonus playthrough: the T&Cs simply want each deposit played through once before you cash out.
  • Keep to the stake you practised with.

Questions people ask

Can you play video poker for free at Springbok?

Yes, on a phone. Open the lobby logged out, go to the Video Poker tab, tap a machine and choose Try It!. It deals on a R1,000.00 fun balance, and nothing won with fun chips can be withdrawn.

Why does Springbok video poker not load on my computer?

The desktop lobby serves video poker as a Flash game, and Flash no longer runs in browsers. Use your phone instead; practice mode not working? lists other causes.

Is Springbok video poker single-hand or multi-hand?

Single-hand. The lobby's hand selector offered one hand only on 9 October 2026, and a 2026 Springbok article calls the games single-hand, although some older Springbok pages still describe multi-hand play.
